Elizabeth’s Vegas kid

THE OZARKS — Before Sedalia finished counting, another fair already had its own champion written down in the kind of list breeders keep like family Bibles.

Elizabeth Eades took Grand Champion Market Goat at the 2026 Heart of the Ozarks Fair. The public winners sheet says the goat was bred by Ausmus and Bounds and sired by Vegas. That is the entire official sentence. Button considers it an excellent sentence.

Button’s method remains illegal in most newsrooms and perfect for this one: ask the question the program does not print.

Was the goat named Vegas because somebody liked the neon, or because the buck showed up overconfident and still won? Either way, a kid walked him. That is the part I would put in the school paper if they let goats in the school paper.

Nanny Belle Quill, who believes a market-goat sentence should include the handler’s hands, added the only invented detail we will allow: that Elizabeth’s last look at the class was the look you give a gate you already know how to latch.

Heart of the Ozarks is not Sedalia. It does not have to be. The Ozarks run a whole necklace of fairs, and the beads are supposed to be different sizes. A grand at home is how a grand at the state fair learns to stand.

Professor Gruff’s margin note: “New result. Print the name. Do not inflate what the list does not say. Congratulations is a complete paragraph.”

Elizabeth Eades. Grand Champion Market Goat. Heart of the Ozarks Fair. Sired by Vegas.

Congratulations is a complete paragraph.
